Overmolding vs Insert Molding

The overmolding and insert molding processes are specialized injection molding techniques used to integrate multiple materials or components into a single molded part.

Overmolding

Overmolding begins with standard injection molding of substrate parts using an aluminum mold without heating or cooling lines. This results in longer cycle times, allowing for careful monitoring of fill pressure, cosmetics, and overall quality.

Once all substrate parts are molded, overmold tooling is assembled, and each part is manually placed into the mold to be overmolded with thermoplastic or liquid silicone rubber.

Insert Molding

Insert molding is a similar process, but it involves using a preformed part, often made of metal, which is placed into the mold. This preformed part is then overmolded with a thermoplastic resin to create the final component.

After the molding run is complete, the finished parts are promptly boxed and shipped, ensuring quick delivery to the next stage of production or directly to customers.
